PCU Donates $1,090 to Christian Cupboard Food Shelf
Press release from the Postal Credit Union.
Patrons at this year’s Woodbury Days celebration
showed their generous side by supporting Postal Credit Union (PCU)’s freewill collection for the
Christian Cupboard Food Shelf in Woodbury. In return, those making a donation received a lime
green PCU backpack to tote around goodies found at the event. Close to $200 was collected by the end of the three-day festival, which the PCU Community Foundation promised to match to give the food shelf more purchasing power.
But Liz Fleischhacker, PCU Woodbury Branch Manager, wanted to do more, so she asked the foundation if she could also include the branch’s third quarter “Casual for a Cause” donation of $250, earmarked for local food shelves. That brought the amount to be matched to $450. The
foundation agreed to double the donation, for a grand total of $900. “ Before the check was cut, PCU included an extra $190.11 that was collected at the branch for food shelf donations, so, long story short, we were able to present a check to Christian Cupboard for $1,090.11,” Fleischhacker said.
The check was presented to Christian Cupboard Coordinator Dick Wolff on September 9 during the Woodbury branch’s 10th Anniversary celebration. Wolff was grateful for the donation and stated for every dollar received, he is able to purchase 10 pounds of food from Second Harvest Heartland, the region’s local food bank. Wolff also received 10 backpacks and school supplies to distribute at the food shelf to needy students.
The mission of the PCU Community Foundation is to strengthen the quality of life within our communities by supporting local initiatives at a variety of levels, including early childhood development, financial literacy programs, local food shelves and food programs, veteran’s organizations, affordable housing programs and more. Donations to the foundation are taxdeductible and funds received are reinvested into the community.
