Woodbury Baptist Church on May 19-20 will be celebrating 50 years of ministry in Woodbury. 

Church members and guests will participate in the theme “Past, Present and Future,” with a social time and traditional potluck on Saturday evening, May 19, followed by a worship service, ministry fair and lunch on Sunday, May 20, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Pastor Greg Cooper said he is looking forward to having past and present members of the church re-united for this weekend. 

“Everyone connected with the church shares in a legacy of faithful worship and witness in the community and beyond.  There will be a lot of joy as friendships are renewed. As well as looking back in time, we’re going to celebrate the church’s present ministries and God’s vision for serving in the future. We hope that people in Woodbury will come worship with us and learn about our many ministries during our Ministry Fair on Sunday, May 20.”  

The first formal worship service of Woodbury Baptist Church was held at Woodbury Elementary on February 4, 1962.

The new church, planted by First Baptist, St. Paul, began with 23 members. Construction of a new church building on 10 acres of land at 6695 Upper Afton Road in Woodbury began with groundbreaking ceremonies on July 14, 1963.

Members of Woodbury Baptist Church held their first worship service in the new church building on March 1, 1964. Since then, three additions have been built to accommodate growth and program needs.

“Woodbury Baptist is a church where people can be known and loved by others,” Cooper said. “The core of the church is its love of God and care for people. You see that care in the way we worship, our children’s and adult programs and our mission work.  Our purpose is to love and build faith in Jesus Christ.  We also believe that everyone should have at least one ministry they are passionately engaged in.  Fortunately, we have many ways for people to serve.”
