Brief: New Woodbury McDonald’s on Next Planning Commission Agenda

The fast-food giant is planning to build a new restaurant at Commerce Hill.

Almost a year ago, the Woodbury McDonald’s reopened after a reconstruction.

Now, plans for a new McDonald’s in Woodbury are moving forward.

The Woodbury Planning Commission on Sept. 18 is set to see the site and building plan for a new McDonald’s at the coming Commerce Hill development near SuperTarget.

There are two new retail buildings set to be built at Commerce Hill. Plans call for more than 13,000 square feet of multi-tenant retail space among the two buildings, city staff said in July 2011.

Parking for the buildings would be serviced by the existing SuperTarget lot. There is already a bank on the parcel.

The planning commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at City Hall.

I've been through this McDonalds three times on the way home late at night- and each and every time there was a long wait, terrible food, and indifferent staff.

This McDonald's? As in, one that has yet to be built?

Actually, I like that McDonald's now has their "under 400" calorie menu. It offers the healthiest of Fast Food options when fast is what you need :-) Yay, glad they're coming to "my side" of town.

I hadn't been in a McDonald's in years and recently sampled one again while traveling. I was surprised at the change in menu. The oatmeal with apples, raisins, craisins and nuts was excellent (low calorie, no fat, and value priced). Their coffee is good too.

Unlike the old days, you can get healthy food there if you choose wisely.

Hopefully they'll put in another Applebee's too!

Very funny about another Applebee's. We seem to get double everything...is Woodbury really so big that the current Micky D's isn't close enough? The McDonald's we currently have, the one that was remodeled so that it seems to have less seating...and the food is always horrible...is one McDonald's too many as far as I am concerned. If we have to have another fast food place, I am still begging for White Castle!

Iam OK with new things going to the Eastside, as long as they maintain and don't remove anything from the Westside. My family loves the McDonald's ice cream, but stay away from the fatty foods. Prediction is 50% obesity by the year 2030, we have to fight it.

White Castle wanted to build in that location. Stupid Woodbury wouldn't let them because Woodbury said they had to put up another ugly brownstone building. So White Castle went to Stillwater instead. I hate Woodbury. What a dumb city.

Woodbury blowz, you're an idiot. Woodbury is a fantastic place to live with great schools. If you live here and don't like it, leave, we don't want your negative attitude anyway...

okay, so I heard thru a friend of a friend that Woodbury wouldn't allow another McDee's in the city b/c they didn't want so much fast food, or McDee's exploding on every corner. Or something to that effect. Look how much my friends know. Or money talks. Either way.

Yeah, I think as long as an area is zoned a certain way, the city doesn't have much it can do.

You are correct, m'boy.

They can, as one person above said, put aesthetic requirements on structures which some franchises may decide does not meet with their franchise architecture/landmark geography needs...but, to be honest, franchises have and will modify their designs if they think that the market is good for them.

It makes a difference, too...Drive down Robert Street in IGH and drive down any commercial strip in Woodbury. Which one looks better (a subjective term, obviously.)? I think if you polled 100 people, at least 90 would prefer how Woodbury looks. It's not by accident, folks. If you demand better design and you have the "hammer", you can get it.

Better design holds property values better and longer than lowest common denomonator design.

What Woodbury needs is a Popeyes Chicken.

Isn't Popeye's taking over all the KFCs in the Twin Cities? And isn't there a KFC in Oakdale? Chad, is it much better than KFC?

I like McDonalds
I think they have some good choices now
Although I think Woodbury is a fine place to live
Upon reflection I kind of liked back in 1957 on the farm
