Outdoor retailer Cabela’s on Tuesday announced plans to build a new store in Woodbury’s Tamarack Village.
“Minnesota offers a tremendous array of outdoor pursuits and that has been highlighted by the commitment and loyalty of Cabela’s customers across the state,” CEO Tommy Millner said in a release. “Cabela’s has had remarkable success in the East Grand Forks, Owatonna and Rogers locations and we expect similar results in Woodbury.”
The store is set to open in the fall of 2014.
The Woodbury location will be Cabela’s fourth store in Minnesota, and construction on the 85,000-square-foot store is expected to start in the fall of 2013, said Wes Remmer, Cabela's spokesman.
"We're excited to get going and give our customers the Cabela's experience," he said.
Cabela's has a loyal following in Minnesota, Remmer said, and Woodbury was a "natural fit."
"Minnesota fits the bill—it's a Cabela's kind of place," he said.
Cabela’s expects to hire 185 full- and part-time workers, according to the release.
The store offers thousands of products, including hunting, fishing, camping and boating gear, among other items.
The building’s exterior will have the typical Cabela’s look: log construction, stonework, wood siding and metal roofing, the release says.
The inside will feature the retailer’s “next-generation layout, designed to surround customers in an outdoor experience, including dynamic wildlife displays and trophy animal mounts displayed on a mountain. The store will also feature a Boat Shop, Gun Library, aquarium, Bargain Cave and Fudge Shop,” according to the release.
The trophy animals will be local to Minnesota, Remmer said.

I asked the guy but he said he hasn't been to the site itself. I was going to contact the city on Wednesday and see if they have a record for exactly where.

Why not use the Sportsman's Warehouse space? Too small? I was hoping WorldMarket might return in that space.

Did they buy the land the old State Farm building is on? That's the only plot I can think of that is big enough in that area..

Apparently no planning application has been submitted yet, per the city. So I'll try to ask Cabela's again.

The Sportsman's Warehouse building is owned by Sam's Club. I think Cabela's likes to own their buildings.

The sportsmans wear house is way too small. Have you seen other cabelas? They like standalone buildings surrounded by a huge parking lot that only they exist on. Should be awesome.

Good call Caleb. Should have good visibility from I-94 too.
