Construction at CityWalk in Woodbury: Readers React
Patch has received plenty of questions about the work at Hudson Road and Woodbury Drive.
A new Mattress Firm store is being built at CityWalk in Woodbury.
Crews last week who were working at the site—at the southwest corner of Hudson Road and Woodbury Drive—said the structure would be completed by Oct. 31. Here’s a previous city memo on the plans.
A worker at the existing Mattress Firm store didn’t know about the construction and directed Patch to the company’s corporate headquarters in Texas. A phone call seeking comment was not returned.
Several people, via the Woodbury Patch Facebook page, have asked about the work. A recent post about Mattress Firm prompted this discussion:
Greg: What is being built at City Walk?
Patch: People keep asking about this. I'll copy and paste my recent response. I'll post something on the site over the weekend with what I've got.
Patch: A Mattress Firm. I actually talked to the crew. They should be done by Oct. 31. I called the existing store, and the guy I talked to had no idea what was going on—even that it was happening at all. I left a message at their corporate office but haven't heard back.
Aaron: Hard-working Patch right there.
Dave: Seems like an odd location for a bed store.
Michelle: Yuck, what a blah store to have here... blocks all the other businesses behind it; was hoping it was a McDonald’s.
Doreen: Seriously does Woodbury NEED another mattress store? Why do we have 2-3 of the same in this city?
Denise: Shoot... We thought it was going to be the new Hardee's. Weird spot for mattresses...
Lisa: I’m hoping for a McDonald's too, but we want a playland please. There isn't room for one there.
Eric: I didn't think that there was room for playland at the new hipster-ized McDonald's. McDonald's had the whole unhealthy, kitschy thing down pat, now they're that grim, serious guy who pretends to not like anything popular.
Jessica: Def need a play area somewhere... I'd love a Culver’s.
Amy: I second the Culver’s idea.
Doreen: Years ago Culver’s wanted to open on Norma Lane and was turned away. I would like a Culvers — actually would like a decent bakery.
Matthew: Bakery? Dorothy Ann does not do it for you?
Dave: Patchman — what happened to the McDonald’s plan in front of the SuperTarget?
Vicky: Mattress firm? In CityWalk?? Come on! Just about anything would be better than that.
Patch: I think the plans for Mickey D's over at Commerce Hill (by SuperTarget) are still in play.
Patch: I did a story awhile back on all the furniture stores along Hudson Road: The Logic Behind Woodbury’s ‘Furniture Road’
Eileen: Dunkin' Donuts would have been perfect.
JoAnne: Curious if the owners of the business's in CityWalk knew of this plan to have a brick building blocking their exposure to Co Rd 19? I can't believe with all the vacant storefront in Woodbury they had to build a new building for a mattress store!
June: I have a mattress already so I won't be giving them my business. Why don't these places consult me before going out of their way to build something I don't need????
Robert: Politics aside, I am still hopeful for a Chick-fil-A.
