Construction Worker Injured at Liberty Ridge Expansion Site Released from Hospital
Construction on the $4.5 million project is expected to resume soon, according to a release from District 833.
The worker who was hospitalized in a construction accident at the Liberty Ridge Elementary expansion site Monday has been released from the hospital, according to a release from District 833.
Crews were installing trusses for the new building’s roof on Monday afternoon when one of them tipped, sending other trusses crashing down on two workers, one of whom was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The other worker was unharmed, Woodbury Public Safety officials told Patch.
About 20 of the 60-inch trusses collapsed in the incident, according to the South Washington County Schools release.
Authorities were called at 3:21 p.m. on June 25, Woodbury police said, and by the time crews arrived the injured man had already been pulled from beneath the trusses. He was semi-conscious and bleeding from his nose.
For the school district, the aftermath includes an investigation and cleanup of the site, the release says. Construction is expected to resume soon, Wednesday's release said, though the impact of the accident on the schedule is yet to be announced.
The work was being performed by RTL Contractors, Inc, a subcontractor to the general contractor, Kue Construction of Watkins, Minn.
The $4.5 million expansion project, generally across the street from Liberty Ridge Elementary, is aimed at accommodating the growing student population at the school, including the School Readiness program. The project includes the purchase of the currently leased site, as well as an addition to the building.
Beginning this fall, kindergarten and School Readiness students within the Liberty Ridge Elementary attendance boundary will attend school at the new building.
