The back end of a truck was clipped by another vehicle as it went through the roundabout at Radio Drive and Bailey Road, sending the Ford F-150 on its side Monday afternoon.

No one was injured in the crash, which was surprising, said Allan Olson, Woodbury police officer/paramedic. Police got the call at 2:26 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21.

A juvenile driver, with four other people in his 2007 Nissan Murano, was heading southbound on Radio Drive when he failed to yield at the roundabout and hit the truck, a 2013 model that had been purchased only a month ago, Olson said. The truck turned on its side and slid along the road but did not fully roll over, he said.

A father and his daughter were in the truck; they were heading to the airport, Olson said.

Police briefly blocked traffic heading westbound on Bailey Road as the scene was cleared, but it was open again about an hour later. Tow trucks were on the scene moving both vehicles.

Washington County officials often stress that accidents are less severe at roundabouts, and Olson said the crash could have been worse if it occurred at a traditional intersection.

“It all comes down to the speeds involved,” he said.

Drivers are still going through that intersection way to fast. Have witness it many times. Posted speed is 20. And that is plenty fast enough,

Yes and Radio Drive heading South does not do a good job of yielding. They just keep going.

I actually did a story on this awhile back, and a lot of the fender-benders there involve out of town folks. http://patch.com/A-dz1w

Yeah, but I go through there often enough and see drivers who have no clue. And they don't all have Wisconsin plates.

I do wonder how the roundabouts will function along Woodbury Drive once that project is complete.

I go thru the ones in lakeland...i swear if I DON'T see someone just driving in without looking I am suprised...nearly every time i go round one, they pull right in, almost hitting me if i dont hit the brakes.
Stupid distracted, ignorant drivers.
Roundabouts are super EASY and DO work- its just our country of dumb drivers that makes them an issue.

They are supposed to function better mammy, it does seem like user error for the most part. But some people just hate them. And it's tough because all the ones in the Wood are different.

one peek at the approach signage will clear all the confusion up....but its hard to read a sign when you are paying ZERO attention to driving.

I just added a photo of some signage from an old story to this post, but I think it's been updated since.

I personally like roundabouts. But the pair of roundabouts at west point douglas rd and jamaica ave in Cottage Grove have me confused sometimes.

The problem is that drivers do NOT understand the concept of YIELDing. It's not just in roundabouts, either. Ever turn west on Warner Road off of 61? The people going south on 61 onto Warner have a YIELD there.

I HATE the roundabout in question in this story. Give me a stoplight anyday.

My comment above was supposed to say "The people going south on 61 onto Warner have a YIELD there and almost NO ONE does." Trying to make the point that people don't know how to yield...
