East Ridge Student to Serve as Official Page for Republican National Convention

James Fenton, of Woodbury, is one of only two Minnesotans in the program.

East Ridge High School student James Fenton has been selected as a participant in the 2012 Republican National Convention Page Program this summer in Tampa, Fla.

The pages will have the opportunity to experience the entire convention process as Republicans gather to nominate the GOP favorite for president.

Only two participants are chosen from each state, according to a release. The nomination process took place early in the year and was extremely competitive, the release says.

“I want to thank Senator Ted Lillie for nominating me for this honor.  I am excited to experience history in the making,” said Fenton, of Woodbury, an academic honor student who is currently playing Legion Baseball for East Ridge.

Pages will assume a variety of vital convention-related roles during the event, among them: acting as floor runners, assisting with caucus meetings, and distributing official convention materials and communications.  In addition to serving at the Republican National Convention itself, the pages will also participate in a volunteer service program in the Tampa area, during their weeklong stay.

The 2012 Republican National Convention will be held at the Tampa Bay Times Forum Aug. 27-30, and will host 2,286 delegates and 2,125 alternate delegates from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and five territories. The convention will also include approximately 15,000 credentialed media—an international press corps second only in size to this summer's London Olympic Games.
