The snowmobiler who died on the St. Croix River in Bayport on Saturday has been identified as Billy Meister.
Bill Meister confirmed his son’s death to the Pioneer Press on Sunday. Billy was a 2009 graduate of Hudson High School.
It appears Meister rode through open water about 75 yards off the shore, where warm water feeds into the river near the Allen S. King Plant in Bayport.
A witness called in the report at 11:54 a.m., on Saturday, and multiple agencies, including the Washington County Dive Team, responded to the scene.
First responders pulled Meister from the water and transported him by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he was later pronounced dead.
"He is very familiar with the river," Bill Meister told the Pioneer Press. "I don't know why he would go there."
The Ramsey County Medical Examiners Office and the Washington County Sheriff's Office are conducting the investigation.

Pooker, I'm SOOOOOOO sorry for what's happened to Billy. I remember coming to the bar all the time and hearing you ALWAYS talk about Billy. I know you loved him very much. We may never know all the Who's, What's, Where's, When's, Why's and How 's and that what's makes it even tougher. And..with time, you and your family will heal as Billy may be gone; however, HE'LL NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER BE FORGOTTEN.
Billy will live in our hearts always & Forever as Billy will have all you in his heart as well.
Again....I'm truly sorry about Billy & My deepest, most sincere, thoughts and prayer's go out to you and Bridgett and..... to both of your families. God Bless you guys! Kelli Jo Zoller
