Grand Opening for New Woodbury SuperTarget Set for March 6
There will be a soft opening starting March 1, and customers will be able to shop there before the grand opening.
Employees at the new SuperTarget in Woodbury are gearing up for a March 6 grand opening.
There will be a VIG (Very Important Guest) night March 1, and the public won’t be turned away between then and the official opening, said Mark Tillett, the store team leader.
“We’ll be open for business,” he said.
Minneapolis-based Target Corp. broke ground on the 180,000-square-foot store over the summer, Tillett said, and the opening is on schedule. As a SuperTarget, the store will offer a full grocery, deli and Starbucks in addition to its traditional department-store wares. The store will also offer expanded health and wellness products, and more health and gluten-free food, Tillett said.
The new Woodbury Target will employ 300-400 people, Tillett said, and developers are in talks to bring in other businesses to the site, off Woodbury Drive near Tamarack Road. Already a bank is being built at the location.
The store is the only new SuperTarget being built in Minnesota this year, though the company has been renovating several of its existing stores to offer more grocery options, Tillett said.
Woodbury Community Development Director Dwight Picha said the city has fielded numerous calls from residents asking when the store is going to open over the past few months. The city is “pretty excited” about the new Target opening, he said.
“We think it’s going to be a good project for that part of the city and it has been good working with them,” Picha said.
The new store will be the second Target in Woodbury.
“There’s plenty of room for both of us,” Tillett said, noting that the existing store recently underwent a renovation under the company’s “PFresh” model.
“That store will still be open,” he said.
The new store got its first semi truck full of goods on Jan. 31 and since Jan. 27 workers have been putting up signage and setting up its “planograms,” aisles and cases where the products will be displayed. And new employees have been visiting existing stores to get the “Target experience,” Tillett said.
“Great service, that will be our primary focus—just giving the guest a great shopping experience,” he said. “We’re excited to come to Woodbury and looking forward to welcoming our guests. It’s a beautiful facility.”
Hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Target has well served Woodbury for many years and has prided itself on excellent service. I am excited to finally have a store so close to home with the new store, but I will continue to go to the original store if the front end isn't up to par. Target without David, Sheri and Anthony won't be the same!!!

While realizing that we need to broaden the tax base in Woodbury, I feel another Target was not necessary on this peice of property.I hope a curfew is placed on the length of time the parking lot lites will be lit at nite as there are single and multifamily senior housing right across the street.I also hope more is done to use natural windbreaks and burming. The few immature trees and bushes which have been placed will take decades before anyone can enjoy the privacy they will provide. Before we tear down the trees in the area, lets try to work around them!

We don't need a second Target. All it does is take business away from already existing businesses, which results in store closings and lost jobs. In an already weak economy this Target is a bad idea.

Although I did have concerns at first that the Target on Valley Creek would close to pave room for this new SuperTarget, Target has reaffirmed that they wouldn't be closing the original location by upgrading it to a Pfresh location! I am so excited that I will now have TWO wonderful Target's to shop at and I won't be forced to shop overpriced grocery at Rainbow, Cub and Kowalksi's! Target offers amazing deals, a store with all of my needs and a safe/clean environment for the guest!

Yes, I am excited to see the new Super Target open up. The other stores like Cub, Rainbow, Sams and Walmart are always jam packed with people and it is very hard to enjoy shopping because of it.
Hopefully, this new store will lesson the crowded store isles and parking lots so that we can enjoy a pleasant shopping experience.

I heard yesterday that the existing Woodbury Target is often out of some items.

I am so excited for the new target to open. The old Target is almost always out of the baby items I need. Also the east side of Woodbury is in need of a grocery store! I currently go to Target 1-2 times a week and with this new location I can see myself going 2-4 times a week since it is closer.

As a faithful Super Target shopper and resident of Oakdale, I make the trek to Super Target in Shoreview each week for my families grocery needs. The prices on items I buy cannot be beat. I love the one stop shopping experience. Thank you Target Corp. for finally putting a Super Target on this side of the Twin Cities.

We often drive to the West St. Paul Super Target. I also agree that the east side needed a grocery option, and I'll be checking it out tomorrow.

Anyone who believes this new target is a good idea is severely mistaken. Target is becoming no different than Walmart, seeking to eliminate competition and small business. Soon all we will be left with is what Super Target tells us we can have, and we allow this because Target started in MN, if it had began in any other state (like Walmart), people's reactions would be very different. This is bad news to your local pharmacist and your local grocer...Target will be here to give you limited selections, limited service, and limited knowledge. Personal service will no longer exist.

The local grocery stores are way overpriced. I barely even shop there anymore and choose to drive to West St. Paul Super Target or stop at the Super Target along I94 in St. Paul on my way home from work. Also, Super Target does not always have the lowest prices in prescriptions, so I still go to my local Cub for those. There are Super Targets everywhere and I do not believe this ONE store is going to take away anything from anyone else. I am very excited to shop there, much closer to my house than West St. Paul and I can even take the backroads!
