Letter: Weik Answered the Bell as Washington County Commissioner

Woodbury resident Betty Marquardt says she will again vote for the District 5 incumbent.

There are many reasons why one decides to support one candidate over another when they are first running for office.

For me, the important issues are always: what kind of commitment do they show, how dedicated are they to the position for which they are running, how well do they listen to their constituents, how concerned are they about their community, and, once elected, will they fulfill the promises they have made?

Those questions have been answered in spades!

Lisa Weik is running for re-election to the Washington County Board of Commissioners and has proven many times over just how seriously she takes her position. I have rarely seen anyone who is as dedicated and committed to her job as she is.

Commissioner Weik attends any and all meetings that help her gain more background and information in order to be more effective in her job. Lisa is an extremely caring person and considers that, having been elected county commissioner, it is her responsibility to represent us as effectively, efficiently and conscientiously as possible.

Lisa Weik has also successfully utilized her business background in deciding matters reviewed by the county board and in her role as chair of the Gateway Corridor Commission, the committee formed to study transportation options on Interstate 94.

Lisa makes data-driven decisions, and takes principled votes. I simply don’t know what more anyone could ask of a representative.

I urge everyone to check Lisa Weik’s record of these past three and a half years. I know you will be as impressed as I am.

Please vote for her on Nov. 6. No one could represent us better than she has, and who will continue to do so once reelected.

You forgot the part about her never voting no. I go to nearly every County Commissioner Meeting on tuesdays at 0900 in Stillwater and she's the only commissioner out of the five that hasn't voted no to increase spending every chance she can for any project with a request.

Just today she voted yes to continue the 37.5% tax on our garbage to pay haulers to bring trash to RRT, a company that sorts trash to be burned. The company refuses to disclose their books and they promise year after year they will be off the $2.2 million tax dollars they get in subsidies. She had no objection to handing over more tax money to this un-accountable company.

She may be a nice person, but she is putting Washington County deeper in debt. We have $157,000,000.00 in debt, $7 million a year is wasted in paying interest charges alone... She's completely out of touch.
