The Woodbury Public Safety Department on Wednesday introduced its newest K-9 partner, Bosco, a male German shepherd from Slovakia.

Bosco made the trip across the Atlantic and spent a night at a St. Paul kennel before meeting his handler, officer Tom Ehrenberg, according to a release.

Woodbury police are also awaiting another K-9 addition, which the department hopes to announce next week. Both the dogs and their handlers will start a 13-week training program in March at St. Paul Canine Training Center.

The new police dogs have some big collars to fill.

Two Woodbury police dogs showed their colleagues how it’s done in a March 2012 narcotics-certification event in Hudson, Wis.

Levi notched a score of 195.83 out of 200, and Niko, the top dog with a score of 200, was the only police K-9 with a perfect mark at the event. (It was Niko’s second-straight year with a flawless performance.)

Is "big collars to fill" lame? Let me know. Could always use tips.

Lame, Kris! ;-)

Kidding, but it is probably not accurate. Having big shoes to fill, of course, means you are replacing someone who is difficult to follow. There is nothing in the story that suggests these dogs are replacement dogs. And not sure it works anyway. I always use the logic quiz method to test analogies: feet are to shoes as collar is to dog neck? Hmmmm....

Sorry, but asking the question brought out my critical editorial background. (Half the pens in my pencil cup on the desk are red.) I'll shut up now!

Nice pictures! ;-)

I figured Vicki. Maybe I should have said "paw boots" or something. (My dog hates wearing them.) Not sure about them being replacement dogs or not. Meant to follow up on that yesterday but got a tip that led me on a wild goose chase. And the pics are from the PD.

Just heard back: Levi is retired. Niko is still going strong. (So the PD will have three when they get the next dog.)
