Moms Talk Q&A: Guilt-Free Pleasures

What do you do to enjoy yourself without feeling guilty about taking some personal time?

In this week's Moms Talk Q&A, the Woodbury Patch Moms Council will discuss things you can for yourself that you don't feel guilty about.

With our busy schedules, it's tough to take some personal time without that nagging feeling that you should be running errands, working or taking care of the kids.

What do you do in your personal time that doesn't give you that guilty feeling? Make sure to leave your suggestions in the comments box below the story.

Well, I have been fortunate in that I have been a stay at home mom for the past 15 years. I am able to take time for myself while they are in school. I don't really have any guilty pleasures, but I have activities that I enjoy and are good for me such as cycling, reading, meeting with friends over a salad for lunch.

I could really use some new ideas in this area! For now ... I bring my kids with me to the library, or the book store, get myself a hot cup of coffee, and ask them to pick out a book. At the same time, I pick a book I've been hoping to read, and we take about 20 mins to read 'independently'. I love my reading time - sometimes it's the latest People! Lately too, we enjoy a little tune time together ... a few minutes of Just Dance on the Wii is good exercise for mom and the kids!
Whenever I can shop, by myself, I head to Angelina's Cafe for a sandwich, then to Kowalski's ... just a slow trip around the store, including the gift shop, is a treat for me! I would love some good suggestions of mom-time activities ... anyone?

Tonya, I feel like you are describing me when mine were little. It is tough to always have them tag along, but it pays off. Before you know it, they'll be in school and life settles down. My youngest just turned 10 and life is way different. I get plenty of "me" time. Also, now that they are older and extracurricular activities have replaced "toddlers in tow", I limit them to 2 activities. That's 6 places I drive to and fro each week.

Speaking of young kids ... yeah, anytime I can run errands without them is a treat. Taking time to price compare? Or just check out new stuff without going directly for the staples? Or - heaven forbid - shop for me? Awesome, and definitely guilt-free. I'm also a fan of the occasional "special" coffee or ice cream just for me, just because.

Now my kids are older and more independent, it's easier to get away. And I have 2-3 hours to read, write and surf the net after they go to bed every night.
