I wish them the best, but doesn't it just seem like a recipe for failure at that location? Maybe they should put up a haunted house.

Was it the same Ol Mexico that's in Roseville??

I didn't live in Wdby when Ol Mexico was here, but we go to the one in Roseville quite frequently! Delicious food, and always busy! I would guess it's not the same owners because the one in Roseville is very popular and has been in business for years. But kind of ironic to have two restaurants with the same name...

I have a friend who lives in Roseville and he swears by that place.

That building is too big and expensive for a single owner without deep pockets. It'll be interesting to see what a group like AMG, with the means, can do with the space.

Talked to someone today who said Cowboy Jack's is awesome. And with a more known quantity, rather than an independent, maybe that will help.

I've lived in Woodbury since '91 and my memories of that location are sparse, as I've only been there a handful of times in its many carnations. Maybe once when it was 'Ol Mexico. I remember singing karoake there a time or two in the early 2000's. Went in a couple of times when the former Viking "owned" it. It was clear that version wasn't going to work because they were trying to convince people that one side was high-end dining (e.g., $50/plate meals) while the bar area was burgers and fries. Another set of owners tried to turn it into a club late nights in and around the weekend. Will this new version work? Who knows, but I'm sure me and the missus will stop in and check it out at least once.

Ugh, say it isn't so! Isn't there already a cowboy restaurant in Woodbury? Is more than one necessary?

Woody's kind of had a western theme too. Surprised they're gutting it as much as they are.

As a employee of the after midnight group I ask that everybody come on out when we open and let us show you what makes us a unique yet familiar place to come and enjoy great food and great people.
Also please hold us to high standards because we take pride in holding ourselves to the highest standards, so please wait untill were open to decide on what you think.

Not very smart to gut this place over and over and expect better results. I give this a 10% chance at surviving over 2 years. Why not leave the restaurant how it was and If it generates a profit start remodeling piece by piece.

HAASE I think its really less of a point of whether you have a great dining experience as much as it is about not being able to afford the place and pay the bills within the confines of the WCC ordinace about the ratio of food sales to liquor sales. I have worked in that location before, and it is a constant struggle. Honestly, I believe they need to put in a bowling alley or strip club...

Do you guys have a target date for opening Haase?

I think Cowboy Jack’s is going to make it and stick around fo a long time. I've been to thier Mpls location and the food and atmosphere is great.

Surely will fail. 90% of city residents dislike country. The entrance to the lot is horrid. Having the red roof inn next door is a huge turnoff for Woodbury residents who do not reside near this location. Ummm what else.....the one thing their spokesperson (who couldn't sound anymore like a commercial) actually had a good thought about was getting involved in the community...this will help. Age group of 21-30 is still looking for good live music, drink specials, and decent food. Also if your aiming at a Thanksgiving open date a huge population group will be returning from college and figures to be wanting to go out. Look at how well Wild Bills did. Either way hire a crew of people to go out and do some walking advertising. Get the word out WELL before you open. Multiple radio station ads, have a dj or a GOOD band come in. Best idea is to have a very low budget band/dj come in for the first few weeks out of the month and don't charge cover then on the last weekend of every month have a pretty good band come in a charge $10-$20 cover. Figure it out or will someone please put another retail store in there and succeed.

I'd say get the morning crew at K102 Country involved....they won some national award last week at the Country Music Awards.

WAA has had Pull-tabs in several of the operations there, we were hesitant to open a site in the new restaurant until we saw what they are doing and visited their other establishments. These guys seem to be trying to do it right. We are going to open with them and are hoping that we finally have a restaurant that will be successful, yes this was the same Ol' Mexico group as the Roseville store and there were a lot of reasons that they moved out, blaming it n the city is justa cop out, they didn't want to manage two stores. Lets all get out and support all of the establishments in Woodbury and kick up your heels a little. We are shooting of early to mid April to open the pull-tab booth, so I think they will be ready. They have totally gutted the place and it will be pretty nice in there.

Not sure where Jason gets his statistics from but, if you look at the album charts and how well Wild Bill's is doing I would say that 90% of residents not liking country is quite high. Country is HUGE right now in all cities in all age groups, not sure why the entrance to the lot would stop people from going to a place, location and the hotel next door yes but, the way you get into a lot doesn't seem to be valid. I have an idea, maybe you should apply for a job there or open your own because you are so knowledgeable about what should be done??

Does Wild Bill's play a lot of country? I've only been in there around lunchtime and happy hour and never really noticed. I'll have an update on this place this week.
