At least three wild turkeys were pecking around and making some noise along Hudson Road near Woodbury Lakes around noon on Friday.

Thanks to restoration efforts over the past 25 years, wild turkeys have made a comeback in Minnesota, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

Their area spans the southern half of the state, and the birds can weigh up to 25 pounds and have wingspans of about four feet. Wild turkeys prefer open wooded areas, brushy grasslands, and river bottoms, according to a DNR webpage.

There are more than 70,000 wild turkeys in the state, and the DNR has a list of tips on dealing with them.

My backyard faces Jordan Ranch off of Upper Afton, we see 10-20 wild turkeys everyday. They love to snack on the goodies at the farm. Grandma Jordan does not like those turkeys that's for sure! I also regularly see deer, racoons & coyotes around us. The deer like to eat the apples from my trees, it's like a zoo somedays

Kind of cool that there's so much wildlife. But I can see why Grandma Jordan could get annoyed.

Saw a whole bunch of wild turkeys at Tamarack shopping center. They didn't care about the cars or the traffic! :-)

Was fortunate enough to glimpse wild turkey in the cabinet of my basement bar. See it there nearly every time I look.

You had to know there'd be a comment like that, surprised I had to step up and make it the morning after the article published.

They must be watching the geese for tips Laura. Yeah, Simon, when I tweeted this post I didn't want people do be confused about which #wildturkey we were talking about.

Thursday morning I had five in my backyard and one was busy looking in my patio door. I'm about 2 blocks off of Upper Afton to the West from Jordan's Ranch.

Where I spotted them it isn't too wooded. I was kind of surprised by them as they came out of that tall grass.

We face the ponding area between Evergreen East and Evergreen West parks. This spring the male turkeys were strutting around with a harem of females. In the summer, we saw females with chicks. Recently, the females were back. But more impressive were the three fat sharp-tailed grouse that were foraging on our back lawn just a few days ago.
