Sole Mio Plans September Opening in Woodbury
The new Italian restaurant at the Valley Creek Mall will “give Woodbury the restaurant that’s not here yet,” owner says.
Food, Angelo Montes says, “is art.”
“It’s like playing the guitar,” he said. “You play and you enjoy it. But it’s better when you play for others.”
Montes is the owner of Sole Mio, a new restaurant set to open in Woodbury’s Valley Creek Mall. After running into some construction issues, the opening has been pushed back to September.
A celebrated chef who used to oversee the kitchen at the Chianti Grill, Montes said he’s excited to open in Woodbury, a place he has called home since he moved to the U.S. with his family nearly 13 years ago.
“Opening in Woodbury is my dream,” he said.
“To me, it’s like where I was born,” Montes added. “It’s my community, and I can’t wait to show the community (Sole Mio).”
The former Mi Familia space at the Valley Creek Mall is undergoing a complete overhaul, and when finished will feature seating for about 250 people (50 outside), a fireplace, party room and new bar.
The menu will feature traditional Italian favorites like pasta and pizza, in addition to steak, seafood and Sunday brunch.
“We’re going to give Woodbury the restaurant that’s not here yet,” said Montes, whose partners are Lisa and Tony Magnotta.
As an Italian—coming to Woodbury from a town near Milan—Montes said cooking is in the blood.
“When you’re Italian, you’re a cook already,” he said.
Montes said he plans for Sole Mio to be involved in the community through charity work and sponsorships. “That’s my goal,” he said.
In restaurant circles, Montes said he’s known as “The Passion," and he encouraged people to come check it out once it opens this fall.
“Then you’ll know what I’m talking about,” he said.
