Washington County beaches open this weekend.

In Woodbury, while the beach at Carver Lake Park typically opens the Saturday after school ends for the summer, it is now open.

The Carver Lake Park beach is unguarded. Park guests are allowed to swim from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Access to the park will be a bit more difficult this summer.

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services will be making improvements to the regional sanitary sewer meter station, located underground in the 1100 block of Century Avenue South, just south of Interstate 494 and west of Carver Lake, along the Maplewood-Woodbury border.

Work will require Century Avenue to be closed in this area beginning June 11 through Labor Day, weather permitting. Detours will be posted. The Woodbury Parks and Recreation Department will mail detailed detour information to families who registered for summer recreation programs at Carver Lake Park or have rented the Carver Lake Park shelter.

Washington County

The beaches at Big Marine Park Reserve, Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Point Douglas Park, St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park and Square Lake Regional Park open Saturday, May 26, and will remain open through Labor Day.

Beaches are open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. through July, and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. in August.

Starting June 9 and ending Aug. 12, lifeguards will be on duty daily from noon until 8 p.m. When lifeguards are not on duty, swimming is at your own risk.

Here’s three tips from the Washington County Parks Department to ensure a safe and fun experience:

• All swimmers are responsible for their own health and safety. Parents and adults have an added responsibility for all children under their care.
• The primary responsibility of lifeguards is to prevent accidents and to respond to dangerous situations that may occur. Lifeguards provide supervision, react to emergencies and enforce rules and regulations.
• Swimming facilities are inherently dangerous. Follow all rules and regulations.
