The Woodbury High School girls basketball team has a new head coach.
Nathan McGuire—previously the head coach at Holy Angels—is set to be introduced at this Friday’s football game, WHS Activities Director Jason Gonnion said.
Gonnion called McGuire “a perfect fit” for the Woodbury program.
“We’re fired up,” Gonnion said.
McGuire takes over for Lionel Jones, who took a job in Wisconsin, where he has extensive ties.
“Professionally, it was the right decision for (Jones) and his family,” Gonnion said.
Before leading the Holy Angels girls basketball team, McGuire helped improve the Henry Sibley program, Gonnion said, and WHS officials were impressed with his experience.
“He comes very highly recommended in the basketball community,” Gonnion said.
McGuire is a teacher at Armstrong Elementary in District 833 and has middle school track and field coaching experience, as well, Gonnion said.
Also, Gonnion said Kristina White has committed to play at the University of Vermont, and it will be nice to have a Division I player on the roster.
Gonnion said the new coach “just loves teaching the game.”
“I absolutely could not be happier,” he said. “I think we lucked out.”
