Glen Moon, longtime youth coach in Woodbury, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, surrounded by friends and family.

Friends are going to recognize Moon during halftime of Friday night’s basketball game between East Ridge and Woodbury. The event calls for athletes he coached over the years to come down to the court at Woodbury High School and honor him. The game starts at 7:15 p.m.

Friend John Griffin said Moon had an endearing personality and loved sports, his kids and his family.

Moon and his pals could often been seen in the back row of stadiums or bleachers at various sporting events in Woodbury, said Griffin, who coached one of Moon’s sons.

“Just a great guy,” Griffin said. “A great outlook on life. Always a smile.”

Moon last spring told Patch he was at peace with his situation.

“You can cry or you can laugh,” Moon said. “I choose to laugh.”

I had the opportunity to meet Glen through Baseball and Football as our sons played on these High School teams together.

Glen was such an uplifting sprite and always quick with a joke.

My families thought and prayers go out to his family... he is a great man and will be missed by the Woodbury community.

I worked with Glen at Revenue. He and I bantered whenever we encountered each other. Glen would always hold up his fist to meet mine and call me brother. He was one of the nicest and most genuine people I knew. I feel very privileged to have known Glen. I will miss him.

I only met him once Matthew, but I thought the same thing.
