Words From Woodbury: Your Favorite Pizza Joints

Where's the best slice in town?

To set up this week's column, I'm going to give our readers a quick snapshot of my home life.

I share my home with my beautiful wife, two teenage girls and 5-year-old. Between two adults working 50-plus-hour weeks, gymnastics, Girl Scouts, the busy social lives of teenagers and our other commitments, dinner time is sometimes a challenge.

So, for better or worse, we eat a lot of pizza in our house. When planning a weekly menu, Pizza Night is almost always included. But where's the best spot in Woodbury to get a pizza?

At Woodbury Lakes recently, Patch found a few of our neighbors to share their feelings on the topic.

Bailey Oja

Bailey Oja said she much prefers local pizza joints, as opposed to the larger chain pizza shops. She said she prefers the feel of the “little small places.”

Oja's favorite local pizza was also something a little different—her favorite pizza in town comes from Lakes Tavern and Grill.

“They have a really good flatbread pizza,” Oja said.

Ariel Eystad

For Ariel Eystad, between appointments at the Aveda location in Woodbury Lakes, the company is usually the determining factor in where she orders her pizza.

“It depends on if I'm with my parents or my friends,” Eystad said. “If I'm with my friends, it is usually a chain pizza place. If I'm with my parents, it's more of a local.”

Eystad said the chains she and her friends visit the most are Dominos and Papa John's. But when she goes local, it is usually Carbone's. Eystad said she likes that Carbone's shops are family-owned and that they originated here in the Twin Cities.

Buffy Breen

Buffy Breen said she doesn't get pizza that often, but when she does it is usually Papa John's. The chain is apparently the beneficiary of the economic downturn when it comes to Breen's pizza purchases.

“Actually, there were a couple (local places) that we liked that have closed,” she said. “We haven't really found a new place yet.”

The Best in Woodbury has to be Ronnaly's, many others are good but they really put out a good Pizza. I have been eating their Pizza for over 36 years.

Locally, we usually pick-up a pizza at Papa Murphy's, but my favorite pizza by far is Jet's Pizza. They have the best crust (turbo crust) and the BBQ Chicken is especially tasty. They are currently in New Hope and Anoka, but I am hopeful to see them in Woodbury soon!
