A Change in the Revolution...

Dance Studio, that is.

I decided to put my 2-year-old in the tots class and my 12-year-old daughter in the musical theatre class that Revolution Dance Studios was offering this dance season. My older daughter attends Monday night class while my 2-year-old attends a late Tuesday afternoon class.

Last week, on Wednesday or Thursday, my older daughter comes home from school and says, "Mom, the owner of RDS has left and is taking all the competition dancers with her!" I thought, oh boy, I wonder what that means.

Eventually we received an email from the studio explaining that yes, the owner had left and had involved her competition dancers in a situation that they shouldn't have been involved in. My phone started ringing and the rumor mill started.

One person heard this, another that, but in the end all it has done is left me feeling bitter and confused about the next step to take.

My girls are in recreation dance, not competition. A friend told me on Saturday he took his daughter to hip-hop class and she was the only one who showed up and they learned that her instructor left also, so they decided to cancel their contract with RDS.

I decided to take my older daughter last night to class just to see what was happening.

A dance instructor from a studio in Oakdale arrived 15 minutes late to my daughters class. All but two girls were still there for the class. He was a great instructor and seemed to work really hard at trying to make the girls feel comfortable... I mean it was a guy so there was a lot of nervous giggles.

I spoke to the owner of Ultimate Martial Arts and he said they are planning on keeping RDS open, they just haven't had time to figure out what to do.

It sounds like there is a possible new partnership that could be happening but all we can do is wait and see.

I am going to take my 2-year-old this afternoon and see what happens with her class because both her and her older sister had the same instructor who has also now left.

I am left needing answers. It feels very unsettling to put your trust in something and someone and have that taken away due to what sounds like bad business. This has left many families wondering what to do and where to go since all the other dance studios have already started their sessions.

I hope there will be some resolution to what is happening soon.

Same here...daughter just started hip hop class on Saturdays. We got the email and were reassured class was still on. The when my daughter came home, all she talked about was how her instructor was leaving because her friend had been fired. Not sure on all the details. She wants to go where her instructor will be. Not sure what to do!

My daughter was dancing at Revolution, too. We are going to switch to Kim DelMonico's new studio, DelMonico Dance. Kim and her instructors are what made Revolution a great place to dance. There is going to be an open house next week, and I believe classes will start the week of 10/24. The website is www.delmonicodance.com, if you want more info.

Many local studios continue to take on new students into the fall. There are many other great options within our community, who have long-lasting, quality programs. This is a community filled with dance options, so why settle.

Instructor from the oakdale studio was great with my 2 year old yesterday, I think it was the most she had danced yet! I'm not saying we won't change, I just need to get some answers about what is going to happen to rds. We live a minute from there.

My daughter has danced at Relovution since the studio opened. My other two children also took classes there. We believe in the former dance instructors 100 percent! We plan on attending the open house for Delmonico dance and asking a lot of questions. The opening of DelMonico Dance has had no impact on my decision to leave RDS. We would have been looking for a new studio based on my personal experiences with the OWNER Troy Lewis. I realize every story has two sides and it is up to each person to gather information and make their own decision.

My daughters were among the first students at Revolution when it opened 2 1/2 years ago, and they will be switching to Delmonico Dance immediately. There were issues at Revolution that had nothing to do with the teachers. I encourage you to attend Delmonico Dance's open house next week if you have questions.

Yes I do believe there are good business decisions and bad business decisions. Unfortunately for all involved in this situation, Kim Delmonico was not given a choice in how and when she left Revolution Dance and dancers left behind were purposely not given ANY information on what happened, competition and recreation alike. Many competition dancers were very tenacious in finding out the who, what, when, where, and why as they knew the heart of their beloved instructor, fabulous dance teacher and fortunately for our family upcoming owner of Delmonico Dance Studio. Honestly, as the facts came in it only solidified our decision to follow her there. On top of that her extremely talented and experienced staff who worked with her previously will be teaching with her! But what are YOU waiting for? Check out her open house next week, seek answers to any questions you may have for your family and make an informed decision for yourself. I just would not wait and wonder because you may never know what you missed...

My daughter danced at RDS and LOVED it there! We loved, trusted all of the instructors and she has grown leaps and bounds as a dancer. We chose to leave RDS becasue those instuctors are no longer there. We are going to attend the open house at DelMonico Dance, a New Studio in Woodbury. Check it out! delmonicodance.com. If you are choosing to stay at UMA/ RDS (Owned by Troy Lewis) and dance I suggest you check out UMA at the Better Business Bureau and becareful were you invest your money!!

My daughter danced at RDS for the first time last year. In one short year, she grew exponentially in confidence and skill. When this situation initially arose, I wondered "What do we do now?" After my own discovery process, I decided that I no longer wanted to do business with UMA or Troy Lewis. I made this decision willing to accept the risk that my nine year old daughter who has danced since she was two and has participated in competitive dance for four years might not have a studio to dance at this year. Many, many thanks to DelMonico Dance for giving my daughter the opportunity to dance this year! My daughter and I are most excited to visit this new studio at their open house events next week. I encourage you to come and decide for yourself.

I'm sure a lot of the dancers' families are bitter and confused as no one has been able to sort out the details. I'll tell you what I wish had happened last Thursday. I wish that after I realized I had not only been charged my Oct tuition on the 4th (the evening Kim left), instead of the 15th, but also that the tuition $30 more than it was supposed to be, that the phones at RDS and UMA had been answered by a person instead of an operator saying "this number is not currently accepting phone calls." It made me wonder what was up, so that started a whole new problem of finding out that RDS was undergoing a major change--via the rumor mill. This also makes me wish that upon realizing Kim was going to be gone (by her choice or Troy's) that Troy had immediately set into motion an email explaining what happened so all families could find out from him, not the rumor mill, about the coming changes. I would assume he would have our best interests at heart as he's the owner of 2 businesses in town. Instead we were left on our own, trying to explain to our young children why there was no dance this week. I couldn't take my daughter there without knowing if we'd have an instructor or even a class. Explaining why your kid is alone is class is a little too hard for me.

I can't help but wonder why the separation happened, but none of us will find out the real reasons. I can only hope that everyone finds a home where they can dance. I know we will.

I have no idea on what transpired above but we do have a number of students at Plie Dance Company that signed up with us this Summer after Revolution closed its doors in Stillwater. We continue to take students age 2-12 through the Fall and offer classes such as ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and much more. We have amazing, caring and positve instructors, staff and environment of learning and fun for dancers! We offer both competition and recreational classes and try very hard to keep costs affordable for parents - with our pre k classes starting at only $27 per month. We have a brand new beautiful studio in Lake Elmo off of Lake Elmo Avenue North, central and close to Woodbury, Stillwater, White Bear Lake, Maplewood and many of the surrounding communities. Feel free to contact us to sample a free class at www.pliedance.com or call Angeline at 651-249-4656.
