Garden Gate Kids Get New Playground
Building on a strong history of affordable housing in Woodbury, the Woodbury Community Foundation has partnered with the City of Woodbury, and Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity in support of the growing neighborhood at Garden Gate.
Last year, during a Community Build Week, the Woodbury Community Foundation recruited volunteers through it's business and faith community networks to fill a one week gap in the Garden Gate project build schedule. This year, WCF, has been filling in specific open dates, and the latest enhancement was to participate in creating a new playground for the neighborhood kids (see photos of finishing the project last Sunday; crew includes WCF board member, Stephanie Brunz, City Councilwoman Julie Ohs and her husband, and Garden Gate kids and parents).
Next Sunday, WCF will host a Garden Gate Kids' Party to celebrate the new families and playground for 30 kids, age 5 to 17, with pizza, a game theater trailer, and fire engine rides.

Today, as our country and other nations worldwide focus attention on the tragic events of September 11, 2001; this work seems timely Dick. What a way to honor the memory of all affected by 9/11 - an act of positive creation, growth of our communities. A reminder that life continues and hope can arise from the ashes of destruction. I suppose actions sometimes speak most eloquently to the generations that follow.
Thanks for the reminder today and for the window we are looking at ...of the hard work of many caring individuals in Woodbury. May little children and big children create many memories at their new digs and playground.
