Today I had, by far, the most interesting life coaching session. In fact, this was one of the most interesting conversations ever.
I met with a European woman who wanted to see what life coaching was all about. She gave me a huge present: her delightful personality and insight that many of us could benefit from. She is a lawyer by training, but now works as an executive for a large international corporation.
Have you ever met someone who just made you smile the entire time? This was it and I was so present and loving every moment with this wise woman. She is starting to think about retirement and even her approach to what the rest of her life should look like was: I know what I like and I will do it.
She is an agent of change and has such a great voice, one I hope she will use and one day share with many of us. In case you haven't figured it out, I was inspired:)
I first asked her, should she ever write a book, what the chapters would be called. She named them in few seconds:
- How it all got started
- What got in between
- Re-routing: how I made it work
(notice the cleverness? —LOVE)
I was enamored with her and the ease with which she seemed to handle life and everything that came with it. There was no confusion, no wondering, no difficulty. She took everything in stride and has a beautiful handle on life. I was so infatuated that I asked her to tell me her secrets and lessons, so that I can share them with you all. This is what she said:
- Do what you like
- Don't build barriers based on what other people think of you
- Have the drive and energy
- Persistence—relentless determination
- You need to like people: learn, listen, grow. No man is an island
- Be tough—choose for yourself and stand up for yourself
- You owe it to yourself
- Make life fun
Karin, thank you for checking out what a life coach does and realizing you don't need one:) You were one of the teachers on my path and a woman that inspired me so unexpectedly. Thank you and stay in touch!
