Following is a roundup of news and notes from Woodbury this week. Fire A dumpster fire broke out at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Woodbury a little after 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21. Woodbury High School staff squared off on the hardwood against members of the Woodbury Public Safety Department for a Wednesday night fundraiser to benefit the Link Crew. The Link Crew at WHS works to connect upperclassmen with freshmen as the younger students transition to high school. The basketball game was fun and lighthearted, and one WHS staffer dressed up in a beard and sweatpants, at times limping around using a cane (not on the court). The staff at Woodbury High School put together a little trash-talking video beforehand, but the public safety team came out on top. Still, in the end…

It was just two short years ago that Woodbury Patch launched the day after Thanksgiving. Covering Woodbury, meeting people and learning about the city has been a blast, and I’m thankful for all the support I’ve received from the community. I always tell people I went from a newspaper that had been around for more than a century to a brand-new website, and while there have been plenty of challenges along the way, so many of you have embraced Patch and what we’re trying to do. It’s a participatory website, so different from any other news platform out there. It’s your site—I just work here. As…

And that vision is reflected in its usage. “Central Park is a tremendous success story,” Bob Klatt, parks and recreation director, said in the October city newsletter. “We worked with multiple agencies—Washington County, the YMCA, School District 833 Early Childhood Family Education and the Stonecrest senior housing facility—to ensure the building would attract a large cross-section of the community. We are ecstatic to see so many people visit each day.” Related: A Sense of…

This year’s event is set for this weekend, June 30 and July 1. It might be a little late, but find the biggest hill in Woobury and run up it. More than once. …
