Letter to the Editor

Letter: Woodbury Commissioner Lisa Weik Thanks Voters

Weik, the incumbent, won the District 5 Washington County Board seat on Tuesday.

Dear Woodbury voters,  I want to express my sincere appreciation to my fellow Woodbury residents who re-elected me to the county board on Nov. 6. I am humbled by the strong show of support I received in the General Election in my newly re-drawn commissioner district and consider it an honor and privilege to represent you.  I also appreciate the time and efforts of my campaign committee for helping with my re-election bid; your steadfast support was critical to my success. I couldn't have done it without your help or without the unwavering support of my husband and family. I want to acknowledge my opponent, Nancy Remakel, for running a clean, issues-based campaign. I’m grateful to have debated relevant issues in public formats for citizens …

In 14 Cities Patch Covers, Voters Favored MN Voter ID Amendment

How did your city vote on the constitutional amendment to require photo ID to vote?

Here's how residents in a selection of Minnesota cities voted on the proposed Voter ID amendment to the state Constitution, which would have required photo ID at polling places. Statewide, the ballot measure failed to pass the 50 percent level of support it needed (46.34 percent with all but three Minnesota precincts' results). But if citizens in 14 of these Patch communities had their way, the state Constitution would have a new amendment. Support for the amendment in these cities covered by Patch ranged from 19.30 percent in Southwest Minneapolis to 61.23 percent in St. Michael.* "No" in the table below includes ballots on which voter left "Yes" and "No" blank. NOTE: These are unofficial figures until local canvassing boards verify them…

Woodbury Election Results: Kieffer Wins in House District 53B (Updated)

The incumbent Woodbury Republican is elected to a second term.

Republican Rep. Andrea Kieffer was re-elected Tuesday to the state House of Representatives, according to the unofficial results from the Secretary of State.  The incumbent secured 54.84 percent of the vote in the win, defeating DFL challenger Ann Marie Metzger. Kieffer had earned 12,060 votes to Metzger’s 9,909 (45.06 percent) in the House District 53B race. Election night was somewhat “bittersweet” for Kieffer—despite her own victory Minnesota Republicans lost control of the House and Senate. She said she would reach out to Senator-elect Susan Kent (District 53) and Representative-elect JoAnn Ward later today, and soon speak with fellow Republicans, as well. “I’m looking forward to moving forward,” Kieffer said. The incumbent said she …

Andrea won partly, because she is largely Pollyanna. She realizes that it is much easier to win an election, when you say nothing at all. If you look at her website, she takes no controversial stances what-so-ever. http://www.andreakieffer.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=24&Itemid=3   more ›

MN Voter ID Amendment Fails: 'Vote No' Wins

With most ballots in, Yes votes were mired well below the 50 percent needed to change the Minnesota Constitution.

Minnesota voters rejected a constitutional amendment Tuesday that would have required them to show photo ID before they cast their ballots. It was past 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when the Associated Press called the ballot question for the Vote No forces. At 1:45 a.m., with 87.47 percent of precincts reporting, the Minnesota Secretary of State estimated that yes votes were 45.74 percent of all ballots cast. Update (Wednesday, 3:30 p.m.). Unofficial results now show these results: The ballot measure needed more than 50 percent to pass. Growing Optimism Earlier in the long evening, with about 675,000 ballots counted, Our Vote Our Future spokesman Eric Fought said, "We're optimistic" about the Vote No chances. Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 10:15 CST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges …

Obama Wins Minnesota

Voters in Minnesota on Tuesday cast their ballot for Barack Obama, giving him the state's 10 Electoral votes.

Barack Obama won Minnesota’s 10 electoral votes on Tuesday, defeating Republican Mitt Romney. CBS News has called the Minnesota race for the President shortly after 9:30 p.m., about the same time ABC News projected Minnesota for Obama, after Obama took a more than 40,000 vote lead with about 10 percent of precincts reporting. The Associated Press also called the Minnesota race for Obama before 10 p.m., according to the Pioneer Press. Obama's 12 percent lead would match his margin over John McCain in 2008. In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for the Democratic candidate, and since the 1990s has voted for the overall winner of the presidential race 3 out of 5 times. It has voted Republican only once in the last 50 years. …
