Sen. Franken Welcomes Woodbury Native Home

Visits Family in Woodbury Home Saturday.

U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn) visited the Woodbury home of Shezanne Cassim Saturday to welcome him home after he spent nine months in a United Arab Emirates (UAE) prison, according to a press release from Franken's office.

Cassim was detained for posting a satirical video titled "Ultimate Combat System: The Deadly Satwa Gs" on Oct. 10, 2012. It is a mockumentary about combat in an area of Dubai called Al Satwa.

“I’m thrilled that Shezanne is finally home with his family in Minnesota,” Sen. Franken said. “It was a long nine months for him, his friends and relatives, and for all of us while he was in prison. We are all greatly relieved that this ordeal is now over and he is safely home in Woodbury."
