Paddle Boarding... It's Not Just for Hawaii

a great way to burn calories and all in our Minnesotan back yard

I’ve had an item on my bucket list for quite a while and it took me to go all the way to Hawaii to actually take time to do it: Paddle boarding (SUP). 

I have been intrigued by this sport/exercise because I heard you could get a great workout on it and it really focuses on your core.

I was able to recruit several family members to help me check the item off my bucket list.  We headed over to the Wailua River in Kapaa and watched a 3 minute video on the SUP basics…off we went.

In doing some more research, I learned that paddle boarding can burn from 700-1000 calories and hour and you can do so much more on them than paddle:  pilates, cardio and my favorite… yoga.

But did you know, that Minnesota is one of the top places to go Paddle boarding?  With it’s over abundant lakes, this popular exercise can be done literally anywhere in this state.

So go and give it a try, you can rent a board for $16/hour at Lake Calhoun and White Bear Lake just to start.

Remember, brace your core and make sure to listen how to hold your form, it does matter!

Lesson learned, you can probably check off some of your bucket list items right here and Minnesota and not have to go all the way to Hawaii.  Mahalo.
