Community Corner

Did you know?

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month.  We moms, who never wanted to join this club, go gold each September to raise awareness, honor those kids that are newly diagnosed, currently battling, survived or have lost their battle with cancer.
I once read someone's comments that it's easier (not EASY, because cancer is not easy) to rationalize an adult getting cancer.  It is unfathomable to think of babies and children getting cancer.
Did you know that 46 kids are diagnosed with cancer every day?  That is 2 school classrooms.  Did you know that pediatric cancer gets less than 3% of the national funding for cancer research and awareness?  Did you know that children that survive cancer are 8x as likely to have secondary cancers, organ damage, joint damage and infertility at some point in adulthood?
I would like to challenge our communities to recognize and "Go Gold" for the month of September to raise awareness, funding and support for our kids.  Childhood cancer does not discriminate, and I'm one of the lucky moms whose kid survived.
