Frederick Hess Announces Candidacy for South Washington School Board

On Thursday, August 8, 2013 I filed my Affidavit of Candidacy for a seat on the South Washington County School Board.  My decision to seek a position on the school board is based on my strong belief in our representative form of governing.  I believe we have a responsibility to elect officials from a cross section of our society so that all voices are represented.  This holds true on a national, state and local level.  As a member of the South Washington School Board I would represent all the citizens of the district and make decisions in the best interest of the students and learners of all ages.

I have lived in Woodbury nine years and have a son that is in middle school.  His educational success is very important to me as a parent.  During the course of his first 6 years attending school in the district I have been pleased with his progress and am grateful for the dedicated teachers and staff that have made his experience so wonderful.  As a school board member I will continue to support the great work the district is doing in providing a great public education for our children.

For the past 15 years I have worked for Life Link III, a leader in air medical transport, helping families work through the challenging and tedious process of medical claims.  I have been recognized time and again for being understanding, sympathetic, and helpful during these stressful times.  My success is based on my compassion to serve those that need help by understanding the processes involved and effectively communicating information.  I believe those talents will be effective as a member of the school board.

I am a graduate of Manchester University, North Manchester, Indiana with a degree in political science and history.  In addition, I graduated from the National Center for Paralegal Training and have taken additional course work in accounting and health care management.

Serving as a church elder and serving on the church council at Cherokee Park United Church is a rewarding part of my commitment to try and give back more than I receive.  Volunteering for Habit for Humanity, serving meals at Loaves and Fishes or helping door knock for candidates that share my values provide me with the insight that there is more that we share in common than separates us.  Through respectful exchange of ideas and dialogue as a member of the South Washington County School Board I well help lead us into the future.
