Changes in Store for Woodbury's Christian Cupboard Food Shelf

The organization has hired an interim executive director.

As the Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf looks to celebrate 30 years in 2013, the organization is taking a step forward without its founders.

Cheryl Jensen has been hired as interim executive director of the food shelf, which is located at Woodbury Lutheran Church.

Jensen, president of Strategic Consulting & Coaching, will aid in the transition from Dick and Sharon Wolff, who founded the Christian Cupboard.

“The Wolffs have been the heart and soul of the food shelf here in town,” Greig Metzger, president of the food shelf’s board, told Patch this fall. “We plan to honor Dick and Sharon in the future and strive to continue their commitment to the community.”

There was some disagreement over how the Wolffs left the food shelf. The board accepted their resignations this summer, but they apparently felt forced out, Metzger said.

Dick Wolff did tell Patch they planned to retire this fall, but he was unwilling to elaborate on the situation during a brief phone call a couple of months ago and they haven't returned subsequent requests for comment.

Still, Metzger said the food shelf will work to “fulfill the vision the Wolffs helped create.”

The Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf (CCEFS) serves about 400 families each month, Metzger said.

Jensen has 20 years of experience in nonprofit management, the release says, and is the former vice president of Neighborhood Centers for Pillsbury United Communities. She assumed her role Nov. 1.

“Ms. Jensen’s role will be to provide a thorough assessment of CCEFS’s effectiveness, efficiency, capacity for growth and leadership requirements while assuming day to day, tactical management of CCEFS functions,” the release says. “Working with the CCEFS Board, Ms. Jensen will help define the leadership profile required and assist in the hiring of a full-time executive director.”

Metzger said the Christian Cupboard will continue its mission: “to make sure nobody goes hungry.”
