Great Escape: The Laramie Project

Each week, we'll tell you about one great idea to give you a much-deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

When we look for an escape, sometimes we just need that break from reality. A prime example is the theater—an institution whose purpose is to imitate life, usually in a way that’s a bit more grandiose than reality (Carrie Bradshaw’s $40,000 collection of footwear, anyone?).

This week’s Great Escape takes us to Wyoming—Laramie, Wyo., actually, for Tartan High School’s production of The Laramie Project.

The Laramie Project details the experience of the Tectonic Theater Project as crews documented the public reaction to the murder of University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard in 1998. The play uses news reports, interviews with locals, and the company’s own memories to advance the action.

The production runs March 31 through April 3; tickets are available an hour beforehand or at the school.
