Patch Picks: Father's Day Ideas

Whether your dad enjoys bowling, eating or the finer things, we've got him covered.

With Father's Day coming up, here are a few ideas for things to do.

Start Dad’s day on the right foot (and maybe start a new tradition) at this annual charity breakfast. In addition to serving up pancakes, sausage, eggs and choice of beverage, aircrafts will be on display along with a silent auction. Stop by the Lake Elmo airport between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to join in the fun. Prices: adult, $7; children ages 4-9, $4; children under 4 eat free.

Dad Bowls FREE on Father’s Day at Sun Ray Lanes
Dads and bowling go together like, well, pancakes and airplanes. Indulge in this sport of kings with dad at Sunray Lanes; not only is it good family fun, but Dad also gets to bowl free for up to three games as long as an equal number of games are purchased for the kids.

So many advertisements for Father’s Day seem to be geared toward a specific, hunt-fish-golf mentality. For the dads that enjoy a little culture, check out the final performance of “The Wiz,” at 2 p.m. on Father’s Day at Crosswinds Arts and Science School. “The Wiz” is a take on the classic “Wizard of Oz” story, suitable for the whole family. Prices: adult, $7; students, $5; CW students, $3; children

Father’s Day Championship Fathering Rally & 5K Fun Run/Walk Event
“Relax” is a relative term. For some, it means a day spent exerting as little energy as possible; for others, it’s a day to catch up on a workout. This uncompetitive walk/run is meant for those on that end of the spectrum, and designed for families of all ages and abilities to complete and enjoy.  Online registration is available, as is same-day registration (with a $5 processing fee). Price: adult, $20; children ages 14-19, $10; children under 14, free!
