Snapshot: New Cow For The Woodbury Heritage Society

People will have a chance to check out the model cow, milk it and name it during the three remaining open houses this season at the Woodbury Heritage House and Garden.

Ever thought it would be fun to milk a cow?

The Woodbury Heritage Society is giving area residents that chance… sort of.

The newest addition to the Woodbury Heritage House and Garden is a model milking cow, which will be available for viewing (and milking) at one of the final three open houses of the season: Aug. 28 and Sept. 11 and 25.

Woodbury Heritage Society member Kathryn Ho said she saw a model milking cow in another county a few years ago. “I said, ‘We’ve got to have one of those.’”

The open houses—and field trips by area students—will also give people a chance to name the cow, which is meant to highlight the importance of dairy farming to Woodbury’s past.

“I’m voting for Clara,” Ho said.

She has tried her hand at milking the cow. (Water comes out of its udder instead of milk.)

“It’s hard to milk a cow,” she said. “There’s a technique involved.”

The Woodbury Heritage House is located at , at the corner of Lake Road and Radio Drive. Its season runs from June through September.
