Timberwolves President to Speak at 2013 Woodbury Area Prayer Breakfast

Tickets and sponsorships for the annual event are now available.

The keynote speaker for the 2013 Woodbury Area Prayer Breakfast is Chris Wright, president of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

This year’s theme is “Truth in Motion,” organizers announced Friday.

“Mr. Wright will reveal how his faith significantly influences all aspects of his life, including his responsibilities as husband, father, and top-level executive in the NBA,” reads the release.

Caleb Brunz, co-chair of the event with his wife Stephanie, said it's “an opportunity to connect with community leaders, business owners and leaders in the faith community around a shared belief the power of in prayer.”

Wright will be sharing his perspective “on the challenges of living a life of truth in our day-to-day personal and professional lives,” Brunz said.

A native of England, Wright came to the U.S. in 1978, according to the NBA. Before coming to the Wolves in 1990, he spent three years working for the state as a consultant. Wright also previously worked as general manager for two Major Indoor Soccer League Teams, including the Minnesota Strikers (1986-87), according to the NBA.

Wright, who lives in Eden Prairie, graduated from Carnegie College of Physical Education in Headingly Leeds, Yorkshire, England, and is involved in and consults with many local charities and youth sports programs, the website says.

Event

The 2013 Woodbury Area Prayer Breakfast (WAPB) is set for 7-8:55 a.m. Tuesday, May 7.

It will be held at the Prom Center, 484 Inwood Ave. N., in Oakdale. People are encouraged to carpool due to limited parking.

Woodbury Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens will greet attendees and give opening remarks for the WAPB. There will be prayer for local communities and their leaders, fellowship, music, and breakfast.

Tickets

Individual tickets are available for $20 each or $180 for a table of nine.

  • Table Sponsors start at $400 (includes nine $20 tickets).
  • Individual or Event Sponsors start at $100 (includes one $20 ticket).

New this year, people can support the WAPB by purchasing an engraved leather wristband that reads: “Pray About Everything … Philippians 4:6.”

Other Features

The wristband is being offered for a minimum donation of $5 when purchased with an event ticket or sponsorship. Without an event ticket and/or sponsorship purchase, or after the May 7 event, the minimum donation will be $10. Quantities are limited. Proceeds fund the WAPB.

Also, donations of non-perishable food items will be collected for the Christian Cupboard Food Shelf in Woodbury the morning of the event.

The Woodbury Area Prayer Breakfast is part of a larger national movement that is taking hold in hundreds of communities across the nation. Modeled after the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., it is held the same time every year along with similar events at the state and local levels.
