On Nov. 11, 1918, the armistice to end World War I was signed in a railroad car somewhere in the Forest of Compiegne, France. This became an annual observance in the United States, where it is called Veterans Day; in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand where it is called Armistice Day; and in Canada, where it is called Remembrance Day. This day is set aside each year to honor those who have served and are serving in the armed forces to protect our countries in time of war and peace.
