Woodbury Mom Takes to Twitter to Help Ailing Daughter Meet Justin Bieber

There's no cure for Emme Brenner's heart problems, but her mother is trying to cure the 10-year-old's "Bieber Fever."

Emme Brenner is a 10-year-old Woodbury girl with an incurable genetic heart defect.

Dealing with her condition has at times been difficult for the family, said her mother, Dawn Brenner.

“She still maintains such a great attitude,” Dawn said. “She tells us, ‘It’s going to be OK.’”

“I really want to meet him,” said Emme, who will head into fifth grade this fall at .

With all the challenges in Emme’s life, her mother thought it would be nice if she could meet Justin Bieber. She bought tickets for the young pop star’s October show at the Target Center, and has been trying to arrange a meeting between the two.

And the cure for Emme’s Bieber Fever might be one tweet away.

Dawn has taken to Twitter to get in touch with Bieber, whose music and life story Emme said she admires. Dawn said her niece suggested she give the social network a try, but so far she hasn’t heard back.

“It took me forever to even make an account,” Dawn said. “I figured, what do I have to lose? He might think I’m crazy, but what the heck?”

(Dawn has also reached out through Bieber's fan club and even contacted Ellen Degeneres to ask for help in arranging a meeting.)

Emme in 2007 was diagnosed with several incurable electrical heart defects. She has long QT, SVT, bradycardia and autonomic dysfunction. She often passes out or has seizures.

Emme said her positive attitude keeps her going, and she also raises money for the American Heart Association through Jump Rope for Heart at her school. Dawn, whose family attends , also said the faculty at Middleton Elementary has been “amazing” and keeps a close eye on her when she’s at school.

While Dawn acknowledged the episodes and frequent hospital visits are tough to cope with, Emme never complains about her condition.

“She has such an amazing spirit,” Dawn said.

Emme said it would be “a dream come true” to meet Bieber.

“But it would also be great to raise heart defect awareness to help other kids so maybe they don't have to go through this,” she said.

If she does get to meet Bieber, she said she would tell him that she’s his biggest fan and that his music makes her happy.

Dawn said it would be nice for her daughter to have even a few minutes with Bieber.

“She’s inspirational, and I know he’d be inspired by her,” she said. “She’s got a huge heart.”
