Words From Woodbury: Best Valentine's Day Presents

What are some of the best Valentine's Day presents your neighbors have received?

Valentine's Day is tomorrow.

This week, Patch checked in with some of your neighbors to see what they said was the best Valentine's Day present they ever received. Hopefully this week's column will have you looking forward to tomorrow or at the very least gives you a reminder to run out and grab a last-minute gift.

Ashley Herman

For Ashley Herman, the best Valentine's Day present ever wasn't something purchased at a store and it didn't cost hundreds of dollars. It was simply having a meal prepared for her by her boyfriend.

“That was a surprise,” Herman said. “He made chicken marsala, my favorite.”

They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. But did Herman's boyfriend score big points with his homemade Italian meal?

“It was good at the time,” she said. “But it didn't end up working out.”

Sam Anderson

Sam Anderson was spending time on a nice Sunday afternoon brewing some beer in his garage. Patch caught up with him as he was cooling the beer.

Sam doesn't recall receiving any Valentine's Day gifts that stood out to him. However, he had what he felt was some solid advice for his fellow man.

“Roses are always a standard for me,” he said.

He said his old standby dozen red roses certainly helped him land his wife, Erica.

Erica Anderson

Since Sam proclaimed his roses to have helped in his courtship of Erica, we had to find out about her best Valentine's memories. Fortunately for Sam, she said the best gift she had ever received on the holiday came from him. Unfortunately for Sam, roses weren't the answer she came up with.

“Last year, Sam got me a plant rather than flowers,” Erica said. “Plants live longer than flowers.”

And—much like their love—the plant is still alive, Erica said.
