The Woodbury Public Safety Department on its Facebook page told the story of an officer who delivered a child in 2006 and met the boy again on the first day of school in 2013.
On the first day of school, police officer/paramedic Scott Melander got an unexpected surprise when he was reunited with Joey “Holiday” Pope and his dad, George.
Officer Melander had been on duty during a chilly spring morning in April 2006, when Joey’s parents were in fast route to Woodwinds Hospital when mom realized she would not make it all the way before she delivered the baby.
Through a dispatcher, Melander instructed the parents to pull into the Holiday gas station, where he delivered the baby.
Joey was heading to his first day of second grade when his dad recognized the officer in the parking lot.
