Updated: Police Stop Greyhound Bus on I-94 After Passenger Mentions Bombs

No direct bomb threat was made. The Greyhound bus, which was headed for Chicago, was stopped on the shoulder of the eastbound lane of I-94 near Woodbury Lakes.

A Greyhound bus bound for Chicago was stopped on Interstate 94 in Woodbury on Thursday afternoon after a passenger made comments about bombs.

No direct threats were made, according to Lt. Eric Roeske of the Minnesota State Patrol, and the exact nature of his comments wasn't available as of Thursday afternoon.

The man who made the comments was taken into custody and transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for evaluation, Roeske said.

A bomb dog was also brought in and no bombs were found on the bus, he said.

Reports will be forwarded to the Washington County Attorney's Office for possible charges, Roeske said. There did not appear to be any immediate danger to passengers, he said.

The bus was stopped on the shoulder of the eastbound lane near Woodbury Lakes.

Passengers and the bus driver heard the comments, and the driver "became concerned and decided to stop the bus," Roeske told reporters in the parking lot of HOM Furniture in Woodbury.

The call came in a little before 1 p.m., and several squad cars were still on the scene at about 2 p.m. Thursday, June 6, as authorities checked the luggage compartment of the bus.

Other passengers were initially ushered to a Metro Transit bus, and later put back on the Greyhound, which continued on to Chicago, Roeske said.

The age and city of residence of the man taken into custody weren't available Thursday, and it was unclear whether he was traveling alone or if he had had previous contacts with authorities, Roeske said.

The man was taken into custody without incident.
