The new restaurant and its Texas-style barbecue is set to open in the former Broadway Pizza space on Queens Drive.

A taste of Texas is coming to Woodbury.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is set to open Monday, Dec. 19, co-owners Dale Mueller and Cory Sessions confirmed to Patch on Thursday afternoon, when they were getting ready for a friends and family night at the new restaurant.

The barbecue joint is opening in the former location on Queens Drive.

Among the signature food at Dickey’s is the cut-to-order Texas chopped brisket, and “truly southern sides” that include fried okra and jalapeño beans, along with staples such as potato salad and coleslaw, Sessions said.

Since the sign went up at Dickey’s, “people have been shaking the doorknob,” Mueller said.

“We think this is going to be a booming spot,” he said.

The restaurant will have a casual atmosphere and seating for about 60 people, Mueller said.

Dickey’s is also known for its free ice cream and free pickles for customers who eat in. Kids eat free on Sundays.

The restaurant will offer take-out and catering to the greater Woodbury area, Sessions said. Its barbecue sauce is available for purchase, was well as meat by the pound and whole hams and turkeys. Online ordering will be available soon.

Dickey’s will employ two managers and 12-14 other people. It does not serve alcohol. The Dallas-based franchise recently celebrated its 70th anniversary.

It’s located at 1575 Queens Drive. For more information visit www.dickeys.com.
