'Tunnel Valley' Restoration

Friends of the Mississippi River is looking for volunteers to help restore the oak savanna of Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park! Known as a "tunnel valley” due to the ravines hewn into its sides by subglacial erosion, Cottage Grove Ravine is in desperate need of restoration work.

Historically, the slopes of Tunnel Valley were covered by oak woodland and savanna, however, in recent years they've grown in with trees and invasive nonnative shrubs. Volunteers will help open the canopy and make way for more beneficial native plants to return to Tunnel Valley by hauling out brush, cut wood, and invasive plant life.

No experience is required and all supplies, and lunch(!), will be provided.
