Hobby Lobby, an arts and crafts store, plans to open in the former Sportsman’s Warehouse location in Woodbury.

“We are really excited to become part of the community,” according to the Vince Parker of Hobby Lobby, who confirmed the lease agreement.

The store expects to open its doors sometime after the first of the year, Parker said.

Hobby Lobby has more than 550 stores nationwide, averaging 55,000 square feet and offering more than 67,000 crafting and home-decor products.

Founded in 1972, Hobby Lobby operates “in a manner consistent with biblical principles,” according to its website, and is not open Sundays. Find more on its ministry on the site.

The news of Hobby Lobby’s plans recently came up as part of another Patch story.

Patch also asked in June 2012 what people would like to see occupy the former Sportsman’s Warehouse space, which has been vacant since 2009. There were 28 comments on the post.

There are two other Hobby Lobby stores in Minnesota. Find more information on the company’s website.

I'd rather see a medicinal clinic here

Wow! Super excited about this!! We had Hobby Lobby stores back in the Chicago area and, since moving up to Minnesota, I've really missed them. They have a huge selection of everything and their prices are great. Look out Joann and Michaels!!

Lot of folks seem excited. I've been monitoring that building though, and haven't seen much action. (As of early last week, anyway.)
