New Dance Studio Opens In Woodbury

Continuing a family tradition, Legacy Dance Studio gets hip in Woodbury.

The on Wednesday held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for one of its newest members, Legacy Dance Studio of Woodbury.

The studio opened Nov. 15, 2011, and business has been brisk so far, said Scott Drikakis, who owns Legacy Dance Studio with his wife Angie.

“We’re definitely signing up new kids each week,” he said. “It’s been great.”

The family has been in the dance studio business for some time, Drikakis said, starting when his mother worked at a Plymouth studio years ago. In 1998 she opened .

Drikakis, a teacher Legacy Dance, said the business employs four other instructors and offers competition hip-hop dancing. The studio also offers tap, jazz and ballet.

It being next door to and an also has its benefits, said Drikakis, who lives in Woodbury.

“It’s quite synergistic,” he said. “Some of the parents call it a fitness mall. But the running joke is that we all work out, then go to Pino’s (Pizza) after for dinner.”

Legacy Dance Studio of Woodbury holds classes for people 2-18 year old, and already new hip-hop classes have been added due to demand, Drikakis said. He plans to bring in choreographers from New York and Los Angeles to teach hip-hop.

What’s his favorite dance style?

“Mine is hip-hop,” Drikakis said. “You’ve got to be able to cut a rug when you’re out on the dance floor.”
