POLL: Best Woodbury Spot to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day in Woodbury includes everything from Irish music at the public library to Irish Car Bombs at the local watering hole.

Well, St. Paddy's Day is upon us again.

And whether our readers are beckoning for green beer, familiarizing themselves with family trees or warming up those Irish bagpipes, we're asking for their favorite way to celebrate March 17.

Keep in mind voting ends at 9 p.m. Thursday, March 15.

In the meantime, please tell us what you like about your chosen shop by writing a review on Patch Places. Here are the links for the different shops:

Local Editor Kris Janisch will determine the winner based on a combination of poll results and the number and enthusiasm of reader reviews on Patch Places. We’ll announce the winner at noon Friday.

I bet we're all up in the air about the outcome of a poll for St Patty's Day when only one Irish pub is listed!
Jeff Roberts March 13, 2012 at 03:05 pm
It's true, Marc, that Woodbury has just one Irish pub. But all of the places listed in the poll are featuring St. Patrick's Day specials and events. That might make it more enticing to visit.
Marc Drummond March 13, 2012 at 03:10 pm
It might be good to mention that in the story and provide links to the info about the specials and events. Otherwise, people are just going to vote for the Irish pub, which is clearly what's happening.

If I had a choice I'd return to Savannah, GA. They had the best Irish parties I've ever witnessed on St. Pat's Day. My colleague in Woodbury always raved about a McDonalds peppermint shake available around Paddy's week and I would go back to O'Malley's for the fish basket. In addition, when I ordered a Pint of Harp, it was Harp they served. Give Harp a try this week. I bet Great Harvest Bread Co. are selling some good Irish Soda Bread and some currant scones for your tea-time. I also love the Library at Central Park to get lost in history; so I'm still deciding.
Hope I can share this story. It is a about Champ: Champ is a potato dish in Ireland. We all love potato dishes. The Champ Potato Dish originated in Cavan, where people are, reputedly, careful with their pennies ('tis true, my sister in law is from there). The story goes that a Cavan man on his deathbed asked for one final helping of his beloved champ, only to be told by his wife that she was saving the champ for AFTER the funeral.

I'm surprised to hear that. I've really enjoyed Carmine's the two times I've been there. Their Gorgonzola Steak Bruschetta are fantastic, as is their Bolognese sauce.

I AGREE MARC!!!

I enjoy that O'Malley's will have Irish bands, an outside tent party, and all the Irish beers, shots and food I could drink!!! Not to mention homemade corned beef and cabbage!!
Krista White March 16, 2012 at 12:32 pm
It doesn't matter if O'Malley's is the only Irish pub, it's still the best place in town to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. It's interesting that you assume they are only getting the votes because it's the only Irish pub listed Marc. Have you spoken to all the voters and verified that or are you just making stuff up? O'Malley's is getting all the votes because it goes above and beyond to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. They have a full list of Irish beers on tap, homemade corned beef and cabbage, a tent outside with live music, friendly, hard working staff and the only truly Irish atmosphere in town. Maybe I'm just biased because I'm actually Irish, but if you're looking to celebrate in Woodbury on St. Patrick's Day the only real choice is O'Malley's!

I agree Krista. We would not miss it. Great food every day, but especially fun the entire week of St Patrick's Day.
Marc Drummond March 16, 2012 at 02:57 pm
Krista, I agree, from this list, O'Malley's sounds like it's the place to be! If I were going out for St Patty's, that's where I'd go. And I'm not surprised others feel the same.
I'm just saying that this an odd poll topic, because with the options and the way they are presented, the choice seems so obvious.
Peder Connell March 16, 2012 at 04:00 pm
Well said Krista!
