Updated: Woodbury Cabela’s Site at I-94 and Radio Drive, Not Tamarack Village

The outdoor-goods retailer announced its plans to open a store in Woodbury on Tuesday.

A new Cabela’s in Woodbury would be built just north of Tamarack Village, not within it.

Cabela’s, a national outdoor-goods retailer, announced Tuesday its plan to build a new store in Woodbury.

The release from the company said it would open at Tamarack Village, but the president of the company that owns Tamarack told the Pioneer Press that Cabela’s has been looking at buying property at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Interstate 94, north of the shopping area.

No permit applications have have been submitted to the city at this point, said Eric Searles, Woodbury associate planner.

"It is our understanding that (the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Interstate 94) is the site," he said.

Cabela’s plans to open the 85,000-square-foot store in the fall of 2014, with construction set to begin this fall.

Cabela's has a loyal following in Minnesota, said Wes Remmer, Cabela's spokesman, and Woodbury was a "natural fit."

"Minnesota fits the bill—it's a Cabela's kind of place," he said.

I hope the city requires they complete the bike/pedestrian path through their property connecting Oakdale and the Prom Center with the bike paths in Woodbury.

That would be nice, good call Richard. And I do see people biking/walking near Radio and I-94 sometimes during warmer months.
