Snapshot: Gander Mountain Remodel Planned Before Cabela's Woodbury Announcement

Cabela's plans to build a new store at the southwest corner of Radio Drive and Interstate 94.

Councilman Christopher Burns was curious.

After seeing a note in the city administrator’s report about Gander Mountain submitting a permit for an interior remodel of its Woodbury location, Burns asked staff if the application came in after the news of Cabela’s plans to open a new store in Woodbury.

Community Development Director Dwight Picha said Gander Mountain has been planning the remodel for months. Burns asked about the timing during Wednesday’s Woodbury City Council meeting.

Construction on the 85,000-square-foot store is set to begin in the fall of 2013, Wes Remmer, Cabela's spokesman, told Patch. It’s expected to open in the fall of 2014.

The company initially announced that the store would open at Tamarack Village, but the site is actually just north of the shopping area.

Cabela's has a loyal following in Minnesota, Remmer said, and Woodbury was a “natural fit.”

“Minnesota fits the bill—it’s a Cabela's kind of place,” he said.
