The New Year’s First Baby In Woodbury

Adler Greg Morris was born at 5:28 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2012.

Cheyanne Morris had her fourth boy on New Year’s Day.

He was the first baby born in Woodbury in 2012, and it was the first time Morris delivered using a water birth.

When Morris had her three other children, she used pain medication during delivery, “which made me feel a little groggy and not always in the moment.”

Morris spoke with her HealthEast midwives, who suggested she try a water birth. She also heard from her sister-in-law, who had a great experience giving birth at in Woodbury.

Now, her new son, Adler Greg Morris, is the first baby of 2012 for Woodbury.

“We were thrilled,” Morris said of having the city's first baby of the year. “We thought that was great. We were excited about having a New Year baby in general, so we were very happy about that.”

Morris said she delivered quickly in the past, and when her water broke at about 4 a.m. on New Year’s Day, she and her husband Greg immediately left their West St. Paul home for Woodwinds.

“It was a little slick on the off ramps, but everything was fine,” she said.

Once they were at Woodwinds, it didn’t take long for young Adler to arrive.

“I got into the water, and within five minutes he was delivered,” Morris said. "It was only two contractions."

She did not use pain medication this time, and overall, things were “fantastic” at the Woodbury health center. The nurses were caring and listened well, Morris said, and they followed her birth plan exactly.

“I can not say enough about the Woodwinds staff,” she said, adding that expecting mothers who have considered a water birth should give it a try.

Adler weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces and was 20 inches long at birth.

“A perfectly healthy little boy,” Morris said.
