Woodbury Man Opens New Liquor Store

Woodbury resident Dave Wolfe opened his new liquor store in the retail area at Bielenberg Drive and Tamarack Road on May 9.

Aqua Vitae Wines and Spirits will likely hold a grand opening celebration early next month, and friends, neighborhood residents and nearby business owners have already been inside to check it out, said Wolfe, who has lived in the city for 15 years and has previous experience with local beer wholesalers and Redhook Brewery.

The store features major brands and local craft beers, along with other wines and spirits. Aqua Vitae—Latin for “water of life”—also allows people to select from several verities of beer to create their own six-pack.

There is a walk-in cooler for beer and people can order kegs.

It’s basically a one-man operation, and Wolfe said he’s been talking to customers to get the products they want. If it’s a specialty item: “Look it up and we’ll get it in right away,” Wolfe said Thursday.

With a brick façade along the counter and vintage-looking posters throughout the store, Wolfe said he tried to create a “warm and inviting” environment.

“I didn’t want it to look like you walked into a grocery store,” he said.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. They may be expanded in the future, Wolfe said.
