They did it again.

Woodwinds Health Campus has been named one of the top 100 hospitals in the U.S. by Truven Health Analytics (formerly known as the health business of Thomson Reuters).

This is the third time Woodwinds has earned the award, according to a release from HealthEast, whose hospitals include Woodwinds, St. John’s and St. Joseph’s.

Woodwinds also reached benchmarks for highest rate of improvement over five years, meaning it also earned a 2013 Everest Award.

“We’re honored once again to be recognized as a 100 Top Hospital and receive the Everest Award for the first time,” Scott North, senior vice president and president of acute-care hospitals at HealthEast, said in the release. “For us at Woodwinds, it started with connecting with the community and finding out what they wanted. We continue to connect every day at HealthEast with the community with our vision for health and well-being for our patients, our community and ourselves. I believe that Woodwinds and HealthEast will continue to make a positive impact on the people in our communities.”

For the 100 Top Hospitals, the average length of stay for a patient was less than four and a half days, compared with nearly five days among peers not on the list, the release says.

“Their inpatient expense per discharge totaled $5,548, 10 percent lower than the peer group's average of $6,172,” Jean Chenoweth, Truven's senior vice president of performance improvement, said in a statement. “Hospitals on this year's list also outperformed on profits, with an average operating profit margin of 14.2 percent, compared with 3.7 percent for hospitals not on the list.”

Regarding the Everest Awards, Chenoweth said: “These hospitals have managed to reach benchmarks for achievement and for sustained improvement. That’s not easy to do.”

Truven Health Analytics recognizes 100 high-scoring hospitals (from a field of 2,922) by analyzing publicly available claims data from the Medicare Provider Analysis and Review dataset, the CMS' Hospital Compare database and Medicare cost reports.
