Work Underway at Cabela's, New Retail Site

The store is set to open in the fall of 2014.

Trucks were hauling and graders were grading, and the land at the southwest intersection of Radio Drive and Interstate 94 was being readied for a new Cabela’s and retail spots on Wednesday.

The work, which began recently, marks the early phases of a new business development at the corner, which the Woodbury City Council approved in late June.

“We’re looking forward to Cabela’s, as are many other people,” Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens said at the time.

Cabela’s is building a new 100,000-square-foot store at the nearly 16-acre site, where another 12,000 square feet of retail pads—possibly fast food, a convenience store and/or multi-tenant retail—are also slated.

A trail will be constructed along Radio Drive.

“Minnesota offers a tremendous array of outdoor pursuits and that has been highlighted by the commitment and loyalty of Cabela’s customers across the state,” CEO Tommy Millner said when the plans were first announced. “Cabela’s has had remarkable success in the East Grand Forks, Owatonna and Rogers locations and we expect similar results in Woodbury.”

The store is set to open in the fall of 2014.
